Refund Stripe payments from the Stripe Payments dashboard. The refund goes back to your client's original payment method, and the invoice updates automatically.
Issue a refund
- Go to the Stripe Payments dashboard. Contacts -> Invoice Reports & Settings -> Stripe Payments Dashboard
- On the Payments list, click the payment's amount to open its details.
- In the pop up window, click Begin Refund, enter the full or partial amount, and confirm.
You can also reach a payment from the Payments Received report: click Stripe in the payment method column to open that payment in the dashboard.
What happens next
- The invoice returns to unpaid and a negative payment is added to the Invoice Autobiography, the same way manual refunds have always been shown.
- Your client receives a refund email if you have this email setting turned on in Invoice Defaults & Settings.
- Stripe returns the money to the client, usually in 5–10 business days. The refund amount comes out of your Stripe balance.
Who can issue refunds
The Account Owner, and any sub-account user with Billing & Invoicing access, for invoices they issued.
Do not delete the invoice or the payment record to refund a Stripe payment. That changes CollegePlannerPro's records but does not return any money.
