Overview
Just like consultants can invite students to use CustomCollegePlan, parents can also be invited to access a read-only version of their student's account. With this login, parents can:
-
View assigned tasks and their students' reported progress
-
Search for colleges and see which schools are listed under Suggested and My Colleges
-
Access the student’s calendar, shared files, and in-app emails
-
...and much more, depending on the permissions you choose to grant!
As the consultant, you’re in full control of what parents can view. You can choose to hide specific sections—such as Conversations, Files, and the Writing (Prompt) tab—using the same visibility settings you use to manage the student’s portal experience.
Keep in mind: if something is hidden from the student’s view, it will also be hidden from the parent, even if the student hasn't yet activated their account.
How do I enable parent access?
Keeping parent access linked to the individual student ensures that parents with multiple children will only be able to view the accounts for which access has been specifically granted.
1. Navigate to the student’s profile page within CollegePlannerPro
2. At the top of the left-most column, find the section titled "CustomCollegePlan Student/Parent Access". Click the toggle to enable the parent access. Clicking this toggle does not automatically send an invite/email to the parent.

In order to enable parent access:
- The student's profile must be Active
- The parent must have an email address listed on their profile. You will be prompted to add an email address if one is not listed.
Note that parents will not be able to log in until you invite them.
Sending the parent CustomCollegePlan access information
For a parent to gain access to their student's CustomCollegePlan account, they must first set up a password. Parents will need to accept the invitation through a one-time link. To invite the parent to create their password, click the "Invite" link after enabling the account. An email will be sent immediately.
The email invitation looks like this:
If you prefer to invite the parent(s) to CustomCollegePlan within the context of your own email or message, simply copy the activation link from within the Account Settings:
What happens when parents have access to multiple students at once?
Parents with multiple students will be able to easily switch between views for each of their children, even if they work with different consultants.
When a parent with access to multiple student accounts logs in, they’ll first land on a selection page where they can choose which student to view.
Once inside, they can seamlessly toggle between their students using the menu at any time.
As a consultant, can I see what the parent sees?
Yes! When you choose to log in as a student or parent, you can easily switch between the student and parent views. You will know when you are in the parent view by the gray banner that appears at the top of each page.
Note: In the event that a family is working with two separate organizations (i.e., two kids with two different consultants), counselors will not have viewing permissions of the other student or details of who the other counselor is.
