Frequently Asked Questions:
- What changes are coming to what I see now?
The next release (for the week of May 25, 2020) is slated to contain significant iterations on the current Dashboard and College List tabs, as well as many minor tweaks to layout and usability. We will be changing the Dashboard concept quite a bit in response to feedback that the calendar view being front and center is not ideal for most. The College List changes will aim to make the map view less prominent on the page.
- Where is (insert missing feature here that currently exists in CustomCollegePlan)? Will you add (feature suggestion)?
The beta that you currently see is a limited first release. That means that only a small subset of functionality has been added, and remaining components will be slowly incorporated from here. Our first priority is to incorporate all existing CustomCollegePlan functionality before moving on to new or more advanced features. Third-party components (like Prompt, Human eSources assessments, or CampusReel) will be a late-stage addition, but we are in communication with these partners to keep them abreast of developments.
- When will it be done?
We don't know for sure. Since this is an iterative process that is highly dependent on feedback, we expect that it will take several months to incorporate all the baseline functionality. That said, nothing is immediately changing or "switching over" for your students. We are cognizant of the fact that fall can be an incredibly busy time for consultants and students alike, and will be especially mindful to minimize disruption during those months.
- Can I opt in for only some of my students?
Formally opting in will cause a banner to be added to the accounts of all students in your organization, allowing them to navigate to the beta if they so choose. We are at this time unable to further segment students within an account to show the banner to some but not others. As a workaround, you may consider sharing the beta URL with a few students instead of opting in. They can then log in using their same CustomCollegePlan credentials and preview it with no effect on other students. For those who do not opt in, your students are not yet able to see anything related to the beta. We will keep you updated on the timeline for enabling for all students when more functionality has been incorporated.
- Is there an app?
No. The new version of CustomCollegePlan is a fully mobile-responsive website. Students do not need to download anything in order to access it from their device. As a result, students can pull up their accounts quickly and easily from any mobile browser. We are also able to build and maintain the new version more efficiently without needing to consider the technical complexities that apps introduce. If they choose, students can even bookmark the site in their mobile browser and save that bookmark to their phone's home screen in order to "simulate" the easy access of an app.
- Will my subscription cost more as a result of this?
While we have no immediate price increases planned, we have historically found it necessary and reasonable to raise prices from time to time in order to support our operations. We count on subscription revenue to keep the platform running and to support a team that is hard at work to continue with development and provide the high level of support that our members rely on.
